Members should not be surprised when their plan runs out. With Membership End Reminders, each membership plan can email your members automatically before their subscription ends, so you no longer have to build the same "your membership is ending" campaign every cycle.
End reminders work on every plan type: free, one-time, monthly and yearly. This matters most for one-time and non-renewing plans, which previously could not send any automated reminder at all.
Enable Membership End Reminders
Go to the Membership section in the left column, click on Plans, then open the plan you want to edit (or click Add Plan to create a new one).
Scroll down the plan form until you reach the Membership End Reminders section.
Switch on Send end of term reminders. Once the toggle is on, the reminder rows appear below it.
This toggle is separate from the membership automation setting used for renewal and past due notices. You can turn end reminders on even for a one-time plan, where the other automated emails are not available.
Set Up Your Reminders
You can configure up to three reminders per plan: Reminder 1, Reminder 2 and Reminder 3. For each one, set two things:
Days before the end date: How many days ahead of the subscription end date this email should go out. You can enter any number between 1 and 365.
Email template: The template that will be sent for this reminder. Pick one of your own email templates from the dropdown. In order to do this, first prepare your template from Messages > Templates. Click Edit next to the dropdown to open that template and change its content.
Because each reminder has its own template, you can say something different at each stage. A common setup is:
Reminder 1: 30 days before the end date, a friendly heads-up with renewal instructions.
Reminder 2: 7 days before the end date, a shorter nudge.
Reminder 3: 1 day before the end date, a final notice.
You do not have to fill in all three. A reminder is only used when it has both a day count and an email template. Leave a row empty to skip it.
Click Save when you are done. Your changes apply to members who are already subscribed to the plan as well as new ones, so you do not need to re-add anybody.
Which Subscriptions Receive a Reminder
A member receives an end reminder when all of the following are true:
Their subscription has an end date. Subscriptions that never expire have nothing to count back from, so they receive no reminder. See Subscription Duration (paid plans) and expiry day(s) (free plans) in the plan settings.
The subscription is not cancelled and reminders are not disabled on it.
The reminder date is still in the future. If you set a 30 day reminder on a subscription that ends in 10 days, that reminder is skipped, because its date has already passed. The 7 day and 1 day reminders would still go out.
Reminders Are Cancelled Automatically
You do not have to clean anything up by hand. A scheduled reminder is cancelled on its own when the situation it described is no longer true:
The member renews or their subscription is extended, so the end date moves. The old reminder is dropped and new reminders are scheduled against the new end date.
The subscription is cancelled or deleted.
The end date is cleared, so the membership no longer expires.
The member is moved to a different plan. The new plan schedules its own reminders.
You turn the toggle off, change a reminder's day count or template, or delete the plan.
Things to Know
Reminders are checked and sent once a day, so expect the email on the reminder day rather than at an exact hour you choose.
If two reminders are set to the same number of days, the member receives one email, not two.
In group memberships, only the primary member receives the reminder. Sub-members do not receive their own copy.
Members who have unsubscribed from your emails do not receive reminders.
End reminders are set per plan. If you run several membership levels, turn the toggle on for each plan you want it on.
System email templates cannot be used here. Create your own template in Messages first, then select it in the reminder row.
